Everyone should watch Cat Person
The much-maligned film tells us a lot about female sexuality and violence against women
Have you seen Cat Person? It’s a question I’ve been asking almost everyone I know since I watched the widely panned cinematic adaptation of Kristen Roupenian’s viral short story. Most people I know have read that story. But few have watched the film, which I can understand given the critical response.
But if you have some time today, do watch it. It might not be a flawless piece of filmmaking but it says a lot about violence against women, consent, and the sexual norms we’ve all put up with for far too long. It also made me re-evaluate my entire sexual past.
